Don’t Forget to Ask!

A lot of people believe we are guided in this life. Whether you believe this guidance comes from the universe, God, angels, the stars, spirit guides, the collective unconscious, our ancestors, or some other source it can bring a sense of great comfort when you recognize it. But what we often forget is that not only is it ok to ask for this guidance, sometimes it doesn’t come unless you ask for it!
This universal guidance is available to all of us regardless of our belief systems. However, because we have free will, the sources of that guidance often take a “hands off” approach until we ask. They know we are here to learn lessons in this lifetime, even painful ones, and that if they intervened all the time without our consent we would not learn very much. However, their guidance can be extremely helpful and comforting when we reach out to them.
Once you realize that, any time you are struggling with something and want some help you may be startled at how often it arrives when you ask. It may not always arrive exactly how and when you expect it, but the closer your request is aligned to healing and helping yourself or others the more you will find this guidance is closer than you might think. I had one clear reminder of this just last week.
I have been struggling with a nagging wrist strain. It has prevented me from most of the physical activities I enjoy – including yoga and sports. I rested it for a few weeks and hoped that would be enough. Unfortunately, I just discovered an attempt to resume my old activities quickly resulted a return of the pain.
This made me very frustrated. The inactivity has caused me to start gaining weight. Yet I was dreading the thought of visiting the doctor. I’ve played these things out before without much luck and was not looking forward to doctor visits, specialist referrals, x-rays, MRI’s, drugs, shots, insurance questions, tedious physical therapy, and certainly not surgery! I thought of various forms of alternative medicine and questioned which might be the way to go, but that was daunting and overwhelming.
I have had some luck with a similar issue in the past with massage therapy. My intuition told me this was the best choice, but I wasn’t trusting it completely. So I asked for a guidance. I told my guides that if massage was the best option for me, then to send me a very obvious sign. There is a massage place that I pass every day on the way to work. I asked them to do something really obvious that I couldn’t miss if this was the best place for me to go – like change the outside appearance of the building or their sign.
I wondered at first if this was a bit much or too specific. I had only seen one or two changes in outward appearance of the holistic massage studio in years of driving by it every day. I recalled once they changed their sign on the window, and another time they added a small statue out front. Both of these changes had occurred years ago.
So the morning that I asked for a sign, I checked as I drove past the building and everything seemed the same. Maybe this wasn’t the best option for me right now. But later that afternoon as I drove past and glanced over, something took my breath away. There right in front of the building was a statue of goddess painted bright turquoise! It stood out so much I laughed. Well I did ask for something obvious! And there it was, plain as day. This sign was absolutely unmistakable.
I called to discuss my issue and was told of a brand new technology they had recently acquired that could fix my issues in a much quicker, and less uncomfortable way than previous massage treatment options. I made an appointment and the first treatment gave some immediate relief and showed great promise.
I am very thankful for the guidance and I have every confidence I am on the best route to healing my wrist.
And to think, all I had to do was ask!
